Rhubarb and Plum Crumble

20160729_115925[1]There hasn’t been much rain for a few weeks. The ground on the allotment is solid like rock so there’s not much, if any, digging going on. So I’m clearing. I’ve uncovered my beloved Rhubarb plant from its entanglement of vine leaves and pulled off some lovely large pink stalks. By leaving some mature leaves on the plant I’ll be helping it grow back more vigorously. Cut off the poisonous leaves and put them in the compost.

My daughter loves plums, so we have them in the house all the time. Some of the plums in the fruit bowl have seen better days, but nothing goes to waste in our house. Since growing my own food I started ignoring sell by dates on shop bought products since witnessing the water and energy put into producing food.

For the filling:

500g Rhubarb

100g caster sugar

250g plums

For the crumble:

140g Plain Flour

85g butter

50g Porridge Oats

50g light brown muscovado sugar

50g chopped walnuts

1 tsp ground cinammon
